Best NRI Tax Filing Services for Indian Rental Income: A Comparison You Can Check
An NRI tax filing service files your Indian income tax return from abroad: it computes the tax on your Indian income, reconciles the tax already deducted at source, and submits the return. For a landlord, the hard part is rental income and the tax the tenant is supposed to deduct before the rent ever reaches you. This page compares the services that do this work, using what each one states on its own public pages. Every number links to its source. Where a company does not publish a price, we say so.
66 MG Road published this guide. We are not a tax filer, so we are not on trial here. We name our own role at the end and mark it as ours. We do this because the paper trail a property manager keeps is what makes a clean filing possible in the first place.
The one rule that shapes the whole job
Rent paid to an NRI is taxed differently from rent paid to a resident. When a tenant pays rent to an NRI landlord, the tenant must deduct tax at source under Section 195, at 31.2% (30% plus 4% health and education cess). There is no threshold. The Rs 50,000-a-month floor that applies to residents under Section 194-I does not apply here: the tenant deducts on the full rent, whatever the amount (ClearTax, Belong).
Two consequences follow. First, the tenant has to file Form 15CA for each payment, and get a chartered accountant to certify Form 15CB once annual remittances cross Rs 5,00,000. Second, 31.2% of your rent is usually far more tax than you actually owe, so you either wait for a refund after filing, or you apply for a lower or nil deduction certificate under Section 197 using Form 13, which tells your tenant to deduct at a reduced rate. NRIs report rental income in ITR-2 (ClearTax, Belong).
A good service handles three things: the ITR-2 filing, the TDS reconciliation against your Form 26AS and AIS, and, when it saves you money, the Form 13 application. Hold every option to that standard.
How to read this comparison
Three things separate these services more than their feature lists:
- NRI specialism: does the service treat NRI filing as a named plan with a dedicated preparer, or as a checkbox on a resident plan? Section 195 and DTAA relief are not edge cases for an NRI landlord.
- Price transparency: does the service print a rupee price for its NRI plan, or quote after a call? A printed price is one you can hold them to.
- TDS reconciliation and Form 13: filing the return is half the job. Reconciling the 31.2% already deducted, and cutting it at source with Form 13, is where the money is.
ClearTax
Site: https://cleartax.in/services/foreign-income-return/p
ClearTax runs a dedicated NRI plan and a separate foreign-income plan, both priced at Rs 3,100 plus taxes. The NRI plan is built for Indians abroad earning domestic income or selling shares or property in India, with expert assistance, DTAA benefit computation, and a dedicated relationship manager during the filing. Its resident house-property plan is Rs 799 plus taxes and its capital-gains plan Rs 1,799 plus taxes, which is useful to know if you also sold a property in the year (ClearTax pricing).
Model: expert-assisted, fixed-price NRI plan. Strength: a printed price and a named NRI plan with DTAA handling. What its pages do not state: a specific Form 13 lower-deduction-certificate service as part of the plan. Confirm it is included before you pay.
TaxBuddy
Site: https://www.taxbuddy.com/
TaxBuddy pairs software with a human expert and runs a dedicated NRI plan. Third-party listings put the NRI plan at around Rs 4,499 per year, with its salaried-plus-one-house-property plan starting near Rs 999 (TaxBuddy listing, Techjockey). TaxBuddy's own NRI landing page did not load at the time of writing, so treat the Rs 4,499 figure as a third-party number and confirm it on taxbuddy.com.
Model: software plus expert, dedicated NRI plan. Strength: an NRI-specific plan with expert review and case studies of NRI filings. What we could not confirm: the plan price on TaxBuddy's own page, and whether Form 13 is included. Verify both directly.
Meet by Quicko
Site: https://quicko.com/meet/for-nri
Quicko's expert service, Meet, has a plan named "ITR for Non-Resident Indian" at Rs 5,999 (marked down from Rs 6,999), plus a PAN application plan for NRIs at Rs 1,999. The ITR plan states it reports Indian income including rent, capital gains and interest, reconciles against Form 26AS, AIS and TIS, and files the return, through a one-on-one expert matched to your case (Meet by Quicko for NRI). One useful fact for context: when H&R Block wound down its India consumer tax service, it directed its customers to Quicko (Quicko).
Model: expert-led, one-on-one, fixed-price NRI ITR plan. Strength: the reconciliation against 26AS, AIS and TIS is named on the page, which is exactly the TDS check an NRI landlord needs. What its pages do not state: a Form 13 lower-deduction-certificate service. It is not listed with the ITR plan.
Belong
Site: https://getbelong.com/
Belong is a CA-led NRI service that publishes some of the clearest writing on NRI rental taxation, covering Section 195, the 31.2% rate, Form 15CA and 15CB, and the Form 13 route in plain terms. It states it works with NRIs across the UAE, UK and US and offers an NRI tax-filing service (Belong). It does not publish a price for that service on the pages we read.
Model: CA-led NRI advisory and filing. Strength: deep, correct, public writing on the rental-TDS problem specifically. What its pages do not state: a rupee price for the filing service. Ask for it up front.
A note on H&R Block India
If you searched "best NRI tax filing" you may have found H&R Block India. H&R Block has discontinued its consumer tax-filing service for Indian taxpayers and migrated its customers to Quicko (Quicko). Its India site did not load for us at the time of writing. Treat older articles ranking it as out of date.
66 MG Road
Site: https://66mgroad.com/
We are a property concierge, not a tax filer, and we will describe our role with the same scrutiny. 66 MG Road runs one property for an NRI landlord: tenants, rent, repairs, legal and tax coordination, through one vetted manager. On tax, our job is the paper trail, not the return. We keep the rent record, the TDS record and the vendor receipts so that when your CA or one of the services above files your ITR-2, the numbers reconcile against your Form 26AS without a scramble. Our structural commitments are no commission on rent, vendor work billed at actuals with receipts, every rupee a line item on an itemized bill, and dated photo and video proof of all work. Pricing is published at /pricing.
What we do not do: file your return, sign your Form 15CB, or apply for your Form 13. Those need a chartered accountant, and the services above are built for that. We keep the records that make their job clean. See how filing costs sit against management costs in what NRI property management costs, and how the rent trail is kept in rent collection services for NRI landlords.

How to choose
Ask every service four questions in writing. Do you file ITR-2 for NRI rental income, or only salaried returns? Will you reconcile the 31.2% deducted under Section 195 against my Form 26AS and AIS? Do you apply for a Section 197 lower-deduction certificate with Form 13, and is it in the price or extra? What is the total price for my case, before I share documents? The services differ less in their brochures than in their answers to the last two. The cost mechanics of the surrounding property work are in what NRI property management costs, and the full picture of managing from abroad is in the pillar comparison.
FAQ
What is the best NRI tax filing service for rental income in India? There is no single answer. ClearTax publishes the lowest fixed NRI price at Rs 3,100 plus taxes. Quicko's Meet names 26AS, AIS and TIS reconciliation on its page, which matters for TDS. Belong writes the clearest guidance on the rental-TDS problem. Match the service to whether you need only a return filed or also a Form 13 to cut TDS at source.
How much TDS is deducted on rent paid to an NRI? 31.2% under Section 195, that is 30% plus 4% cess, with no minimum threshold. The tenant deducts on the full rent regardless of amount and files Form 15CA, with a CA-certified Form 15CB once annual remittances cross Rs 5,00,000. Source: ClearTax.
Can I reduce the 31.2% TDS on my rent? Yes. Apply under Section 197 with Form 13 for a lower or nil deduction certificate. If approved, your tenant deducts at the reduced rate from the date of the certificate. Otherwise you claim the excess back as a refund when you file ITR-2.
Which ITR form do NRIs use for rental income? ITR-2. NRIs report income from house property, capital gains and other Indian income in ITR-2, not ITR-1. Source: Belong.
Does H&R Block still file NRI taxes in India? No. H&R Block discontinued its India consumer tax service and moved its customers to Quicko. Ignore older articles that still rank it.
Does 66 MG Road file my tax return? No. We keep the rent, TDS and receipt records so your CA or a service above can file ITR-2 that reconciles cleanly against your Form 26AS. We do not file returns or sign Form 15CB.
Want a rent record your CA can file from without a scramble? Hand 66 MG Road one property and one contact. Every rupee a line item, dated proof on every job. See pricing.
